My House Decorations - Want to See??

Posted on 19:04 by Unknown

Linking up with Christina to share some pictures of my decorated house.

We use these wooden garlands around all the downstair doorways.  Some of the doors also get a little wreath.

Outside we have Frosty (and 2 deer).

I've always had this thing with nutcrackers.  The little "traditional" one in the front I've had since junior high or high school… long enough to forget when exactly I picked him up.  The teacher one my student gave me a couple of years ago.
Yes, somehow my boys' stocking holders broke while in storage - and those things are expensive to replace.  Between our extra curious dog and our 3 year old (they would have pulled them down from the mantle), we decided to use wreath holders on the boys' bedroom doors.  I love them!

My in laws like to move every couple of years… and every time they move they give us more of their stuff.  I loved this little town, so my mother in law sent them over about 7 years ago.  As the boys have grown, they are in charge of setting this up every year.  Some years they put "snow" under the houses, this year they didn't.

Our tree makes me happy - even though we have to rearrange the furniture to fit it.  This year hubby had to take all the lights off of it (it was a pre lit tree), since all the lights died after 10 years of using it.  Now it has LED lights that will last a lot longer.

My sister is letting us use this tree on our kitchen counter.  It is extra festive!

Go show off your house decorations over at the linky party!

Hope you had a great day!  Thank you so much for your support with the TPT sale!  I picked up some great deals the past couple of days too.  :)

Let's Get Acquainted

Posted on 08:05 by Unknown

It's time for another Let's Get Acquainted Party - this time it's a Tic Tac Toe Edition

College
I went to Biola University and a favorite memory included going with my friends to a dressy dinner at the Disneyland hotel.  Yes, Disneyland was 15 minutes away from school, so it was a constant source of entertainment.  I went with a group of friends, dressed in a ball gown (it was that dressy), and after the dinner we went into Disneyland with our season passes to ride some rides.

First Year of Teaching
When I graduated from Biola (Southern CA), I was offered a position at my student teaching site.  BUT I had my heart set on returning to my hometown (Northern CA) where there weren't any teaching positions available.  After a frustrating summer with only a couple of interviews, I was called 3 days before school started to interview at my own elementary school.  Only it wasn't for a classroom teacher position.  It was for a 40% science teacher position... I grabbed my student teaching Life Cycle Unit Binder (where I had been in charge of all the lessons revolving around those baby chicks) and headed out the door.  The interview went great - though it was weird being inside the principal's office.  I was offered that position, in addition to another 40% science position at another school across town.  My weeks were busy that year even with only teaching 80%.  I taught Monday & Tuesday at my old school, sharing a classroom with the other science teacher teaching 2nd, 3rd, and 5th graders.  Then on Wednesday & Thursday I went to the other school, had my own classroom, and taught 1st, 2nd, and 4th graders.  I had Fridays off so I was able to sub for the 9 classes that I taught.  I met my future husband in February of that year, and had my appendix out that March.  Awww... memories.  :)

My Favorite Grade to Teach and Why
Over the past 13 years of teaching I've taught everything from Kindergarten to 8th grade, special education, to science, to general education.  What I really love is 4th grade.  In college I had my head wrapped around primary, I think mainly since that's what my mom taught her entire career.  I LOVE my 4th graders though.  Yes, I did leave 4th grade for 4 years because there was an opportunity to teach 2nd grade, in a non rotating room, with only 20 kids, on a year round schedule... BUT when the opportunity came back to teach 4th I jumped at it.  The kids are the perfect age for me.  They are independent, they get my jokes, and they still love their teacher.  Then you add the curriculum: California history, fun math, and literature that I still love from when I was little  - and it's the perfect combination.  :)

I hope you go link up too!

Bon Voyage! Alaska Bound & SALE

Posted on 09:00 by Unknown

Hi Everyone.

You might be thinking - yesterday, she said no more internet... well this is brought to you from the "schedule" feature of blogging.  :)

So - yeah - I'm heading out to sea this morning.

I'm so excited.  I have always wanted to visit Alaska.  We've been looking at the excursion options and trying to decide how and where to splurge.  Don't know when we will be able to visit again.  :)

So here's what we ended up with as for luggage (at least as of Saturday night):

Yep - 3 gigantic suitcases, a smaller carry on, our toiletries bag, the boys backpacks for toys, our backpack with all the electronic gadgets, our stroller, the potty chair is tucked inside the carry on, with the smaller collapsable one inside his backpack, the diaper bag/backpack (not shown), and my purse.

... and my husband's back is still sore.  :)  Fun for me!

Here are the stops for our trip - Pictures are from Princess Cruises Lines.

Juneau

Ketchikan
We are planning on seeing a lumberjack show.

Skagway

Tracy Arm Fjord
I'm excited to see the icebergs up close.

Victoria, B.C.
I've been to Victoria before after I graduated college.  My mom and I had a special weekend just the 2 of us.  We stayed at the Empress, had tea, went to the gardens, etc... this trip my boys really want to do the Pirate excursion.  I'm positive that it's going to be so different... and the day that we land will be my husband's 40th birthday - so I really doubt he will want to have high tea with me.  :)

Over the next 10 days I have a bunch of "revisits" to share with you.  Things that I posted last summer that have been a big hit over on Pinterest.  Basically a reminder of what I did or made, and what actually happened over the last school year with those items.

Also wanted to give you a heads up that I'm throwing a sale over at TPT to celebrate this happy day with my family.  It'll be going today and tomorrow.  Happy Day!

I'm sure I'm going to have internet withdrawals, but we aren't splurging on it that often... my Kindle is loaded and books have been downloaded, my nano and phone are charged, and we're heading out!

Take care people!

4 Linky Parties - Happy Last Day of Internet!

Posted on 08:21 by Unknown
So today is the last day I have access to the internet for the next week and a half.. I'm already going through withdrawals... wanted to link up with a bunch of my favorite linky parties.  :)

Favorite Graphic

First up, I found a new-to-me blog over at Across the Hall in 2nd and wanted to link up
a few of my favorite things.  :)

Home
I'm going to sound like my parents for a moment and let you know that I love my recliner.  It's been through a lot, but so many wonderful memories have been made in it.... rocking my babies, reading my books, relaxing, napping, quiet time...

School

I'm a marker junkie.  I have my own pack of these thin type Crayola markers and I don't share with the students.  At least my personal markers I don't share... I do share my bigger markers in my marker pail, but these babies do not get near their little fingers.

Life

These days my Kindle Fire doesn't get far from me.  I need it.  I'm addicted to it.  I found a bunch of free downloads over in the Kindle booklist at Amazon and have downloaded a ton to get ready for the cruise.

Next up is Kristen and Elizabeth's Organization Linky.

One little thing that I use that helps BIG time is having this paper sorter.
Product Image
I know, sounds simple - right?

Of course I don't have my own picture, and I don't have access to my classroom anymore to go hunt down my own paper sorter to take a picture.  So imagine with me...

*First drawer has scratch paper.
*Second drawer has binder paper.
*Third drawer has copy paper.

This is located on my information table, and the kids have access to it when they need a piece.  It keeps everything neat and tidy.  :)

The papers don't fly out (like they did when I used the type of paper sorter in the picture above).

Then I need to link up with Joanne's Motivational Linky.

Something that I love to do with my class is have a candy bin.

It's actually stored in something like this... with a lid that latches on.
Yes, I give them sugar but I do not fill it myself.

At the beginning of the year, I ask parents for donations of candy.  Some kids bring it in and it fills it up... then right before Halloween I send home a note that asks kids to bring in a quart sized bag of their candy - in return they will gain a homework pass.  The candy pours in and I store the extra bags in the bottom drawer of my file cabinet.  I refill as needed... then I use some of those extra bags during our Christmas Sugar Cube Missions to help decorate.  Candy comes in handy for that extra incentive, or that extra reward, or for winners of a class game, or for the students that work extra hard cleaning up their areas at the end of the day... or staying on green...

Last (I promise), I'm linking up with Eberopolis for her Teacher Toolbox Trio Celebration.  For this linky, I want to share 3 things from TPT.

First up is something that I've made that I couldn't live without.

Well, you know how much I love my Task Cards... I LOVE THEM!  I couldn't just pick one of them, so I chose what I use with all of them.  My Task Card Answer Sheets are free over at TPT.

Then is something that I've bought that I love.

Spiral Language Review - Fourth Grade

Ashleigh's Spiral Language Review

She has a year's worth of weekly spiral sheets that tackle all the material that my kiddos need help with.  During testing I was using it as extra review homework.  We also did it together in class, and I used a few as an impromptu quiz.  Click here to follow her store.

Then there is something on my wish list that I'm hoping to get for next year.
Pinned Image
I really want these Thinking Stems from One Extra Degree.  I know exactly where I can put them.  These are mini anchor charts with prompts to get kids thinking.

I'm sure you all wanted to know this about me.  It probably made your day.  :)

Have a wonderful day.  We are celebrating Father's Day with my dad today at lunch, then finishing up packing, and trying to cram it all in the car.

Happy Mother's Day!

Posted on 07:41 by Unknown

I love being a mommy.  :)  Wanted to share my Mama Love Pinterest board with you - these basically sum up my heart.  All these odds and ends are over there - plus a few more.  Have a great day!
So sweetAHHHHH :)

just love animals. :)
This picture is from an article called "The Rescuing Hug". The article details the first week of life of a set of twins. Each were in their respective incubators and one was not expected to live. A hospital nurse fought against the hospital rules and placed the babies in one incubator. When they were placed together, the healthier of the two, threw an arm over her sister in an endearing embrace. The smaller baby's heart stabilized and temperature rose to normal. My Papa sang this to me..
