Bundle Up & Peek

Posted on 05:00 by Unknown
Yep, you read it right.  It's cold outside!  I just want to stay wrapped up in my sweats and blanket today, but instead I'm going out to sing again… on stage… with a microphone.
I loved it last week, so I'm doing it again!

I also wanted to wrap up some of my best sellers so they would be greater savings to you - 20% off of the cost of the regularly priced items.  With the Cyber Sale it will be an even greater discount on Monday and Tuesday.

So I have now bundled up Set 1 and Set 2 of my Whole Class Writing Journals in one easy download.

I also bundled up my Addition and Subtraction with Regrouping Task Cards.  These are perfect to use all winter long.

Then I bundled up other best sellers - my Super Hero Addition and Subtraction with Regrouping Task Card sets.  These are the same equations as my Penguin themed set, but they work year round.

I'm working on bundling up other products as well, so stay tuned!

Now, I wanted to link up with Mrs. Laffin's Laughings to share a peek at my upcoming week… knowing that I have school tomorrow has been tough - I have loved vacation.  Her linky though made me actually open up my teacher bag and lesson plan book.  I need to remember what I'm doing tomorrow!

We are starting Unit 3 in our Reading text.  Our unit is a Medicine unit - all different types of medicines, treatment, health care, etc…  This week our story includes a timeline of medicine.
Timeline of Medicine (4th Grade OCR)

For this story, since it always falls in December each year, I took the 24 different medical dates and typed them up.  It turns out to be 2 pages per student, and they color them in a red/green or red/white pattern, then cut them out, to then attach them into a paper chain.  I need to remember to refill my staplers for this activity!

This week in Math we are starting Long Division.  We have been practicing it during our Morning Math Meeting, but now it is the focus of our days.  I have 3 sets of them that I have created that I use interchangeably.  The equations are the same between the robot, Christmas, and Snowman  sets, just the clip art changes it up to make it special.  We will practice for a bit, then these cards will go into our math centers, and we'll play scoot later on in the week.

Our Mentor Sentence Read Aloud this week is Grandpa's Teeth...

…and we will be starting our Chocolate Touch and Chocolate Fever comparison.

In Science we will be starting our unit on Rocks and Minerals.  This year I'm using this Interactive Notebook by Jessica Scott to help it come alive for my students.
 Rocks & MInerals Interactive Science Notebook {4.P.2.2 & 4.P.2.3}

Want to see what I did last year?  I'll still do a bunch of stuff like last year, just going to go deeper with my students.

I hope you have a wonderful day!

Peek at my Week

Posted on 09:00 by Unknown

5 days until Thanksgiving vacation!  I am so blessed that my district gives us an entire week for vacation.  When we were year round we had a long weekend, but nothing beats an entire week!!  I love teaching - I had to explain it to my own son the other day - but there is something about having a chance to focus on my own family that makes me smile.  :)

So, here it is another Sunday to share what's planned in my classroom.  Linking up with Mrs. Laffin's Laughings and her Peek at my Week linky party!

This week we are reading a very short story titled "The Milkmaid and her Pail".  We will be focusing on cause and effect, as well as idioms.  It's the end of the unit, so we will also be spending some time getting ready for our unit test - reviewing vocabulary, practicing comprehension strategies, and spelling patterns.  Fun times!

We really should be moving onto long division but instead with the vacation approaching we will continue to review multi digit multiplication.  We will be tackling this project from Teaching with a Mountain View instead.  I love how the students will be able to see how multi-digit multiplication is used in real life.
Multi Digit Multiplication Project for the Common Core

This week is a big one for us.  We will be finishing up Lemonade War,

and reading How Many Days to America? for our mentor sentence.

Bringing Thanksgiving into the classroom:

I chose 5 of the pages in this packet, copied them half page, and they are stapled into a little packet to tackle this week.

This unit I will be using the math games in my centers, and on Friday we will watch the movie, "Molly's Pilgrim" and complete those activities.
Fabulous Fall - ELA Centers for Upper Elementary
Fabulous Fall Centers
In the afternoons I have ELA center time, so I will be using these fall activities to review key concepts.

Before I sign off for today, wanted to remind you of the Pin It giveaway over on yesterday's post.  Have a great day!

Peek Time and Sale

Posted on 06:57 by Unknown

Are you loving this weekend?  My family has been dealing with a stomach flu... hubby and my youngest had it last weekend, the other 3 of us were sick in bed yesterday.  I slept basically all day...much needed though.  Starting this day feeling much better!

I did put my TPT store on sale though through the long weekend, on the off chance that someone needed something and was waiting for a sale.

4 day week ahead!  I know the week is going to fly - they always do!  Here's what my class will be tackling.  Linking up with Mrs. Laffin's Laughings.  :)

I love our story this coming week.  It's a fun one that students want to revisit over and over again at the end of the year.  Why wouldn't they want to hear it again?  It includes a giant, squabbling brothers, a beautiful princess, and treasure!

The focus is going to be on making inferences, so we will be tackling this activity to help reinforce the concept.
Inference and Summary Garbage Activity

Yes, the kids will be sorting through garbage (product by Miss Britnee).  I mentioned it last year, but it's that time to do it again!

This week our double digit multiplication is going to get trickier - 3 digit by 2 digit.  I'm so impressed with my kiddos.  They absolutely grasped the concept last week and ran with it.  I'm a firm believer that if I tell them that something is "what the older kids do" they want to do it too.  This week I'm moving on with my robot cards.

We have been going full steam ahead with our Mission a Day booklets.  So far we are up to #5.  The kids are writing down key facts as we go over it full class.  It's just the basic information, they will be researching more in depth when it's time for their research reports.

Part of our health course has a Learn Not to Burn fire safety program.  The firemen come out for the first part of the program this week.  It's just a classroom discussion, and students learn the importance of having an escape route.  Part of the requirement is doing homework from the firemen - creating a floor map of their houses, talking with their parents how to escape, and then creating a meeting place.  They also have the responsibility of checking their fire alarm batteries.
It's because of this program that I bought an escape ladder for my own 2 story house.  :)
Never can be too safe!  Every year the Lego Education Magazine gets delivered, and this year it was all about Fire Safety.  The kids are going to get a little extra present on Tuesday.

It's still all about traditions in my classroom.  We tackled Halloween, Thanksgiving, and New Year's last week (I skipped December for a reason), and this week we will be writing about Valentines and Birthdays.  If a student doesn't celebrate a holiday, I have them write what family traditions they would like to do instead.
We are also working on a collaborative project with the local high school.  I have a student in my class whose parent is an art teacher there.  My class is creating Alphabet Animal Alliterations for her class to illustrate.  It's all based out of the book Animalia.  We started out brainstorming animals for each letter, and now the kids are creating alliterations complete with a setting and adjectives.  They are doing great!

Have a great week!

Peek at My Week

Posted on 12:00 by Unknown

Monday already?  This weekend sped by...  Here's what's the plan for this coming week.  :)  Linking up with Mrs. Laffin's Laughings to share.

Our story in the textbook this week is all about a group of students that wanted to earn some money for a specific cause.  So this week to tie it into real life, my students are going to brainstorm ways to earn money for a cause of our own.
Specifically each student is going to get one of those UNICEF boxes to keep on their desks (mine looks a little different), and they are going to think of ways they can earn some change from their families, and some pennies from me to help the cause.

In math, we will be starting with the absolute basic 2 x 2 digit multiplication.  We are going to also do some fun Halloween type centers with some odd and end freebies I've picked up.  Just click the images to head to TPT.

Our mentor sentence read aloud is The Widow's Broom, but we will also be starting The Lemonade War too.   Jivey made it easy this week for me.  She has a freebie mentor sentence unit that she just added for The Widow's Broom, as well as a unit for Lemonade War.  Can't get much simpler than that!

For writing, this week will be all about a Spooky story.  The kids will be having to incorporate their spelling words into the story, in addition to using a Halloween themed word list that they brainstorm.  Fun times ahead!

I hope you had a great day!
